Something not working, or a question about what Emenla does with your record.
A person reads every message, and a reply can take a few days. If something in the app is wrong, saying which screen you were on and what you expected instead is the most useful thing you can send.

Common questions
Do I need an account?
Yes. Emenla asks you to sign in with Apple, with Google, or with an email address and password before you start. The account is how you get back in, and it is what will make the Community section possible later.
It does not sync, back up or transmit your symptom record. Everything you log about your body is written to your phone and stays there whether you are signed in, signed out or offline.
Where is my data kept?
Your symptoms, period dates, body map and notes are kept on your device, in the app's own private storage.
On a server in Frankfurt, Germany, we hold your email address; four nutrition figures per scanned meal, only if you use the meal reading in Nutrition; a timestamp for each message you send the assistant, so it can have a daily limit, never what you wrote; and any feedback you choose to send us. That is the whole list. The privacy policy sets out exactly what happens on every path.
What happens when Nutrition reads a photo of a meal?
That one photograph is sent to OpenAI to be read, and four figures come back: energy, protein, carbohydrate and fat, with how confident the reading was. Those figures are stored against your account.
The photograph is not stored by us. It is not written to any database, any file store, or any log. OpenAI reads it as our processor, under a data processing agreement, and does not use it to train its models; the privacy policy says what OpenAI may keep for abuse monitoring, and for how long. If you never scan a meal, no photograph ever leaves your phone.
How do I get my record out?
Two ways, both in the app. Record, then Document, then Create a dossier builds the doctor summary as a PDF and hands it to the share sheet, so you can print it, email it or send it. Settings, then Export everything gives you everything you have recorded as a file.
How do I delete everything?
Settings, then Delete everything. It asks twice, then deletes your Emenla account, your email address, every meal-reading figure and any feedback you sent, and erases everything the app holds on your device, including the photographs you attached.
It deletes the account first: if it cannot reach the server it stops and deletes nothing, so you are never left with an emptied phone and an account still on file.
Will I lose my entries if I change phone or delete the app?
Yes. Your symptom record lives only on the device it was made on, and the account does not back it up. Export your data before deleting the app or moving to a new phone.
Does Emenla tell me whether I have endometriosis?
No, and it never will. Emenla documents, organises and educates. It does not diagnose, treat or predict any condition. Every figure it shows is a count of something you recorded, shown with what it is out of.
Why does it ask for the microphone?
So you can say how you feel instead of typing it, which is easier mid-flare. Speech is transcribed by your device, on your device. No audio is uploaded and no recording is kept. You never have to use it; typing does exactly the same thing.
Why does it ask for the camera or photos?
So you can attach a photo of a meal or a test result to something you log. An attached photo is copied into the app's private storage and stays there. The single exception is the meal reading above, which you have to tap to start.
Can I turn off the food section?
Not as a switch. When you set the app up, Emenla asks how you feel about tracking food. If you answer that it is a difficult area or that you would rather skip it, Nutrition shows you the reading library and nothing else: no logging and no plans, anywhere in the app, until you change it yourself.
Will it remind me to log?
Only if you ask it to. One reminder a day, in the evening unless you choose another time, scheduled by your own device, and you can turn it off in Settings at any time. There are no streaks anywhere in Emenla and there never will be.
What is sent when I use Give feedback?
What you wrote, your email address, and four things about your phone: the version of Emenla, the version of iOS, your iPhone model and your language. The app lists those four on the screen before you send.
Nothing from your record goes with it. No entry, no symptom, no date, no photograph, no summary. You cannot delete a single message from inside the app, so write to us and we will; deleting your account deletes all of them.
Is something not working, or is it only me?
Settings, then Service status. Almost all of Emenla runs on your phone and cannot be affected by anything on our side: writing, symptoms, the body map, your cycle, Overview and the doctor summary all work with no connection at all. Only two things need one: reading a meal from a photograph, and signing in or changing your account. That page says which, and checks while you look at it.
If you need more than an app
In Emenla, Community, then Places lists endometriosis organisations and a crisis line for your region.
If you are in immediate danger or crisis, contact your local emergency services.
